Welcome to the Vega Motel!

Since 1947, the Vega Motel has welcomed travelers in search of a clean room and a good night's sleep. Your hosts, Harold and Tresa Whaley, have been the historic property's owners and caretakers since 1988. During their tenure, the Vega Motel has seen a revival of interest in Route 66 that has brought travelers from around the globe. The motel has been featured in articles by the Chicago Tribune and the Amarillo Globe-News, a PBS documentary about Route 66 and a music video for Vince Gill's "I Never Knew Lonely."

Tresa's handiwork is visible throughout the motel, from the curtains she designed for the windows in each room to the flowers planted in the courtyard. On warm summer days, the Texas Panhandle breeze blows the sheets on the clotheslines in the courtyard.

Vega is also home to the Hickory Cafe, conveniently located across Route 66 from the Vega Motel -- a perfect place to stop for breakfast! Across town, on another alignment of 66, you'll find Dot's Mini-Museum, where longtime Vega resident Dot Leavitt displays her treasures, and Roark Hardware, the oldest operating hardware store on Route 66.
